Anshu Jain was born in India, but his education was cosmopolitan. His studies began in New Delhi where he enrolled in economics at the University of Delhi. At the age of 19, he moved to the U.S. and received an MBA in finance at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
After receiving his MBA, Anshu Jain began his career on Wall Street and in 1988 began working at Merrill Lynch where he set up and ran its global hedge fund group. This experience prepared him well to join Deutsch Bank to assist in creating a world-class investment bank division headquartered in London.
His banking career took off as he became instrumental in building Deutsche Bank into a fixed-income powerhouse. He more than doubled debt sales and trading revenue between 2000 and 2009. He is also credited for building Deutsche Bank into a global investment bank that rivalled Wall Street's giant firms.
By July 2011, Anshu Jain was appointed co-CEO of Deutsche Bank where he led the investment bank division including asset and wealth management. As a charismatic and approachable executive, he quickly became the face of Deutsche Bank internationally.
During his tenure there were difficulties at the bank that included regulatory investigations and litigations. These actions took their toll on Anshu Jain.
In 2016, he left Deutsch Bank to pursue other interests that included being on the advisory board of InCred, a non-banking financial company in India. He was also a member of the advisory board of the Wildlife Conservation Trust, based in India. He never forgot his roots.
He enjoyed cricket, golf, wildlife photography, and wildlife conservation.
A talented, intelligent man that rose to the peak of his profession, only to die too soon from cancer at the age of 59.
He will always be In Heaven with the Stars.
