However, she is best known for her role in the musical film “Grease”, where she sang, “You’re the One That I Want”, opposite her co-star John Travolta. This made her an international star.
As an activist, she put forward environmental issues, animal rights and advocated for breast cancer research.
Born in England, her family moved to Melbourne, Australia when she was six and even though she lived most of her life in the United States, she always considered herself Australian.
At the age of 14, her star began rising, first by forming a short-lived all girl group that sang at local coffee houses, and then by winning a local singing contest on TV. Doors began opening for her leading to successful record contracts and finally to the role of a lifetime in the movie “Grease” that transformed her career.
As her career soared, in 1992 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She recovered, only to have the cancer return first in 2013 and again in 2017.
Through these immense health struggles, she kept singing, working on animal rights and offering a strong, clear voice for more breast cancer research.
A star was born in Olivia Newton John and it will live forever In Heaven with the Stars.
